We hope you can join us on Wednesday October 7th from 9AM-11AM for SAO’s annual community day. This year we will be volunteering at Clarfield Farm, an urban farm operated by Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
The farm grows over 20,000 pounds of high-quality produce and makes fresh food a reality for low-income, food insecure residents. Additionally, Clarfield Urban Farm increases the amount of local food available in Columbus by selling to local restaurants, which in turn promotes program sustainability.
The food bank asks that we bring our own gardening gloves and water (they will have a limited amount of both there, if people forget). Also, there is no running water at the farm but they do have port-o-johns on-site. Basic duties that we will be asked to perform include preparing/amending garden beds, harvesting food and general clean-up. Lastly, the farm is located behind an old school building so there is ample parking.
Following the event, SAO will be hosting a group lunch at Plank’s Cafe & Pizzeria (743 Parsons Avenue, Columbus, OH 43206). The lunch is free of charge for all SAO volunteers!
We hope to see you there!
